Common Questions About Speech & Language Therapy

FAQs

We know reaching out for support can come with a lot of questions. At Prairie Basic, we take a connection-first, low-pressure approach—focusing on play, relationships, and everyday communication.

You don’t need to have everything figured out before getting started. Whether you’re just wondering, feeling unsure, or ready to move forward, we’re here to support you in a way that feels approachable, practical, and grounded in your child’s strengths.

Is it too early or too late to start speech-language therapy?

1

It’s never too early—and never too late.

Early support can help build strong foundations through play, connection, and everyday routines. At the same time, communication skills continue to grow across the lifespan. We work with children, teens, and adults, meeting each person where they’re at.

How often are therapy sessions?

2

This depends on your child and your goals.

Some families come weekly, others less often with a focus on home strategies. We’ll figure out a plan together that feels realistic, supportive, and sustainable—because what happens between sessions matters just as much as what happens in them.

Will learning more than one language cause a delay?

3

No—children can absolutely learn more than one language.

Bilingualism doesn’t cause a speech or language disorder. It’s common for skills to look a little different across languages, but children are capable of learning and using multiple languages in meaningful ways. We support families in maintaining all of their languages.

How do we get started?

4

Reaching out can feel like a big step—but it doesn’t have to be. Even if you’re just wondering or not quite sure yet, it’s always okay to connect.

You can reach us at prairiebasic@gmail.com or call 306-690-9926 to get started.

We do have a short waitlist right now, but we’d be happy to add you and connect as soon as a spot opens up. In the meantime, we’re always here to answer questions and help you feel supported in next steps.
